Lori and Friends, I just checked a new website to me which sounds interesting. Its membership is Free. Called "Groupon.com," it features a large group of special items at great saviings.  There is one special offer each day, ranging from a "wine trip" and such to Fredricksburg at about half price, to theaters (2 tickets for $9), restaurants, spas, and even a sale price visit to Aveda.  I just joined the daily offer emailing and am waitng for that special offer that fits into my schedule.  It…See More

Hi Lanelle, That's a terrific surprise you found in the "almost" junk mail! I know it won't take long to spend $35 at Lowe's, but that's a great start to whatever home project you've got going - cough, cough - your…

I received in the mail a flyer from Lowe's advertising "Project Starter" savings last and almost threw it away. But it contained a $25 savings card on a $250 purchase & a $10 savings card on a $100 purchase. These will come in…

Haley and I caught a really interesting exhibit during the winter at the McNay. We went one Thursday evening and just paid the $5 to enter the special exhibit. It really is a fabulous museum! Thanks for the tip, Lanelle!

I hope the name of our community made you do a double-take -- I wanted something catchy but still convey what we're about: helping you find ways to save money and have the "lifestyle for le$$"! When I save money on something (the "cheap" part), I get a "thrill". Maybe you do too! Or ...

... maybe you're the type that is super-busy and doesn't have time to find the deals - well, we can help there too. Just check us out for ways to stretch those hard-earned dollars.

Read my "How Did I Get Here?" blog to see my story. You'll see that I wasn't always like this. But now, my husband and I live on less than we make, so we maximize it by being smart shoppers/spenders/savers. I don't like to pay retail, and if given time, I find a way to save on my purchases - totally legit, of course! And that's what I will share with you. I'll share my secrets!

You know, I see this community as a cocktail party - many guests with multiple conversations going on. I'm your hostess, but I imagine that there are others out there who engage other guests to join them in different groups or discussions. Just like at a party, you may have some folks talking about sports, kids, work, politics, etc. On CheapThrillsNetwork.net, you'll find established groups on groceries, health, travel, clothing, etc.

Oh, I'm looking for some outgoing personalities to keep members interested in these topics - in other words, be "in charge" of a particular group. If that's you, let me know. If there are other topics that you'd like to discuss ... then start a group!

And, hey, this is a dynamic site. So if you have any suggestions, feel free to "give me your two cents". This is going to be continually changing, based on your preferences and information available.

Thanks for checking us out. I hope you join us - and if you like us, invite your friends!

Here's to finding cheap thrills ... and turning the rest of us on to them!

Hey, This Woman Speaks My Language

Recently, a bunch of us went to a local chain restaurant called the Cracker Barrel. If you’re not familiar with Cracker Barrel, it’s a home-cooking restaurant with a big country store you can browse through while you’re waiting to be seated. Just as we walked in the doors, the first thing I noticed was a big display with none other than…chocolate. I don’t mean just chocolate bars and candies, but chocolate everything. There were coffee cups, pillows, plaques,…

Getaways And Chocolate...Sweet Escapes

Did you know that getaways and chocolate have more than a few things in common? Chocolate implies escape, comfort, enjoyment, calmness, relaxation, sweetness, nurturing, happiness, raises your spirits, being refreshed, being revived, replenishment, being soothed, sweet abandonment, peace, and stress relief. Getaways are all of these things and so much more. Just as chocolate is a sweet escape, so are our getaways.

It would be nice to think…

More than just a cheap date…

I’m not totally unromantic, but I’m probably not the best person to make Valentine’s Day recommendations – unless you’re looking for ways to save on ways to show your love to your honey.

Want to know how to make February 14th fun and frugal?

Number one rule for me: Skip the Card. Have you ever turned over one of those things at Walgreens to see how…

How did I get here?

I remember, pretty vividly, the exact time when I realized that I was a snob - a store snob. It was 1986, and I was with my boyfriend (he's now my husband). He needed to run into a store called "Rose's" to pick up something (probably for something to wash his car). It was a discount store (and in my mind, it was rungs below K-Mart) and I didn't want to go inside. In fact, I refused! I didn't want to be seen going into Rose's. My boyfriend/husband pointed out how I was behaving - and I really… Continue
